Helki Standard of Points

It is important to state the the Standard of Points of the Helki should be considered as a living document. Therefore I will write here a general discription of the Helki breed. Those that are interested in the actual document may email me and request a copy at any time. That way no one will have stale information.

Outcross: Domestic Shorthair and Longhair of appropriate type.

Colors/Patterns: Currently all patterns and colors are permissable

General Description: The Helki, native to Sacramento California, is a medium to medium large sized cat with a naturaly occuring mutation that gives the cat a semi-rexed coat, that occurs in both short and long hair cats.
The texture of the coat is soft, silky, and crimped without coarseness. Coat Texture is distinctly different than that of any other Rex mutation and will vary within the breed per individual, season, climate and hormonal changes.  Coat is evaluated primarily on quality and texture. Which should be reminicent of a wooly rabbit pelt. The Helki also have a tail that is medium long to long but is thick at the base and tapers slightly to a rounded tip. The Helki is an intelligent, curious, and alert cat that thrives on affection and human interaction. The general appearance of the Helki is statuesque; graceful, elegant, strong, and athletic. They should appear as a balanced semi-foreign type. This breed is slow to mature. Seasonal moulting should be expected.

Temperament: The Helki like to be involved in all that happens in the house. They enjoy being helpers, they are polite cats and often will wait their turn for snacks and treats. They are smart and often figure out how to open cages, windows, doors, and cupboards. The males often practice "true fathering" and play a protective role in the kittens lives and development. In the show hall the comments often given is that the cats and kittens even new to the show hall display a very relaxed attitude as if they are pros and that they enjoy the show bench. This is a playful, intellegent breed, that is mellow and easy going.
